How the Ratings Work

Every string in our catalogue is rated from 1–5 across six performance categories, using half-point increments, plus an overall score calculated from the six individual ratings.

5 is best-in-class. 1 is poor. 3 is genuinely average — we don't inflate scores. A well-rounded string can therefore score higher than one that is excellent in one area but weaker across the rest.

Where the Scores Come From

Our ratings combine manufacturer specifications, published playtests, retailer testing, professional stringer feedback, and real-world player experience. We look at both measurable data and how a string actually performs and holds up in a racquet over time.

When sources disagree, we give greater weight to measurable and repeatable data. To keep comparisons fair, monofilaments are assessed at 1.25 mm, or the closest available gauge, so differences in gauge don't distort the results.

Kept Independent

No brand pays for a rating, and commercial relationships do not influence our scores.

We continuously re-test our catalogue, add our own playtesting, and incorporate customer feedback as it becomes available. The goal is simple: to make our ratings more accurate, useful, and trustworthy over time.

The six categories

Every string is scored from 1–5 on all six, in half-point steps.

Power How much energy the stringbed returns to the ball on a flat, medium-speed swing.

Spin How effectively the string grips the ball and snaps back to generate spin.

Control How consistently the stringbed delivers predictable depth, trajectory, and direction.

Comfort How soft and forgiving the stringbed feels at impact, including the level of vibration transmitted to the arm.

Durability How well the string withstands notching, wear, and breakage during play.

Tension Stability How well the stringbed maintains its tension and playing characteristics over time.
