BABOLAT RPM SOFT

Babolat RPM Soft is a crossover string built around comfort. A flexible polyamide core is reinforced with aramid powder for durability and wrapped in a silicone layer for string movement, giving it comfort and power that rival the softest synthetic strings while keeping some of the control and snapback of a shaped poly.

It is the softest, most arm-friendly string in the RPM range — closer in feel to a firm multifilament than to RPM Blast, and aimed at players who want RPM branding without the stiffness.

On-Court Performance

Impact is genuinely soft — the polyamide core absorbs shock in a way that no true co-polyester does, so it is one of the more forgiving strings a poly-curious player can try.

There is more free depth and pop than a control poly; the trade-off is that the stringbed feels a little muted and less connected than a firm co-poly.

Spin is moderate. The string does not have the sharp edge grip or violent snapback of RPM Blast, so shot shape comes more from the player than from the string.

Durability is the weak point — playtesters found it notches and displaces faster than a co-polyester, so heavy topspin hitters will chew through it.

Who Should Use It

  • Players with tennis elbow or wrist and shoulder sensitivity

  • Multifilament users who want a touch more control and durability

  • Intermediate players trying a poly-style string for the first time

  • Doubles and touch players who value comfort over spin

  • Players who found RPM Blast or RPM Team too harsh

Who Should Not Use It

  • Heavy topspin baseliners who need bite and snapback

  • Frequent string-breakers who need durability

  • Advanced players who want a firm, connected control response

  • Players chasing maximum spin

Hybrid Setups & Performance Adjustments

Power
Already a powerful string; move toward the upper tension window if depth control becomes an issue.

Control
Use a full bed at higher tension, or put a firm co-poly in the crosses, to tighten the response.

Spin
Pair with a shaped poly in the mains if you want more bite; RPM Soft alone is a comfort string, not a spin string.

Comfort
This is the string's strength — a full bed at low-to-mid tension is about as soft as a monofilament gets.

Tension Stability
Tension holds reasonably at first, but playability fades as the string notches — restring on feel.

Durability
Use the 1.30 gauge and expect to restring more often than with a co-polyester.
