HEAD Sonic Pro is a round co-polyester monofilament and one of the most widely used first polys of the last decade. It offers a smooth, comfortable response with a slightly livelier feel than most control polys, while still delivering the predictability and durability that define the category. It is offered in black and white.

It sits at the accessible end of HEAD's poly range — more forgiving and a touch more powerful than the shaped Lynx and control-first Hawk lines.

On-Court Performance

At contact the feel is clean and smooth rather than sharp. Sonic Pro is a little more lively than a typical co-poly, so depth comes more easily and the stringbed feels less dead on slower swings.

The round profile gives up some bite compared with shaped strings, but there is still enough grip to bend and shape the ball. Control is the string's core strength, with a crisp and predictable response through the hitting zone.

Comfort is above average for a polyester. It is not as plush as a multifilament, but it is one of the more arm-friendly full-poly options and a sensible first step down from a soft string.

Tension maintenance and durability are solid, making it a dependable everyday string rather than a short-lived tournament poly.

String at the lower end of the tension range, or pair with a lively multifilament in the mains.

Put a shaped poly (e.g. Sonic Pro Edge or Lynx Tour) in the mains and Sonic Pro in the crosses.

Comfort
Already one of the softer full polys — hybrid with a multifilament in the crosses and lower tension for more.

Tension Stability
Stable across a wide tension range; avoid only the extremes.

Move to the 1.30 mm gauge if you break strings often.
