HEAD LYNX TOUR
HEAD Lynx Tour is a firm, hexagonal co-polyester monofilament developed for tour-level control and spin. Six sharp edges and a low-friction coating help the string grip the ball and snap back powerfully at impact, and it holds a crisp, predictable response deep into its lifespan. It is used on the ATP and WTA tours and comes in orange, black, grey and champagne.
It is the control-and-spin benchmark of HEAD's poly range — firmer and more precise than Lynx, with more bite than the round Hawk.
On-Court Performance
At impact the response is firm and crisp but not harsh. Testers consistently describe it as one of the more manageable control polys — stiff enough to reward a full swing, without the brittle sting of older polyesters.
The hexagonal profile and slick coating produce high spin potential. The string snaps back cleanly on off-centre and brushing contact, helping generate heavy topspin and sharp angles.
Depth comes from your own racquet-head speed rather than string rebound. Passive swings feel underpowered; committed strokes are rewarded with dipping, controlled trajectories.
Tension maintenance and playability duration are above average. The stringbed stays consistent and predictable well past the point where softer polys turn mushy.
Who Should Use It
Strong intermediate and advanced players who create their own pace
Heavy topspin baseliners
Competitive players who want tour-level control and spin
Frequent string breakers who want a poly that lasts
Players who found other control polys too harsh
Who Should Not Use It
Beginners or players with compact, slow strokes
Players who want easy, effortless depth
Players with arm sensitivity (unless hybridised)
Flat hitters seeking a very low, dead trajectory
Lynx Tour performs best when you supply the pace and use spin to control depth.
Hybrid Setups & Performance Adjustments
Power
String at the lower end of the tension range or pair with natural gut or a lively multifilament in the mains.
Control
Use a full bed toward the upper tension window for the tightest trajectory.
Spin
Put Lynx Tour in the mains at mid-range tension to take advantage of the hexagonal profile and snapback.
Comfort
Hybrid with a softer poly or multifilament in the crosses and avoid high tension.
Tension Stability
String in the mid-range; extreme low tensions shorten long-term consistency.
Durability
For heavy hitters use a full bed or move to the 1.30 mm gauge.
