The Wilson Blade 98 16x19 V8 racket features an innovative chameleon-effect paint. Depending on the angle, the color varies from brown to green for a very successful effect. The emphasis on this new version has been to offer both greater flexibility and stability when striking, thanks to FortyFive technology.
WILSON BLADE 98 16X19 V8.0 TEST
We were able to compare the old frame and the new one to make a fair comparison. This new racket won't confuse fans of the V7. Quite the opposite, in fact, as we immediately felt a more solid feel from the very first strokes.
The 632 cm² headsize still ensures good ball control, while the 16/19 string pattern provides dynamism and good access to spin.
From the baseline, it excels in ball control and touch. It's always pleasant to be able to let go of your shots and feel them with a good level of comfort. For us, Blade 98 16x19 V8 is the best version yet offered by Wilson.
FortyFive and Direct Connect Handle technology provide greater flexibility, stability and feel, giving you that extra feeling and comfort on every stroke.
This greater frame flexibility, combined with increased comfort and feel, made it easier for us to let go of our shots. Even if it remains demanding, hitters will appreciate this high level of performance.
The racket remains selective, however, and will appeal to players with good technical movement to exploit the frame's potential. Off-center shots are therefore unforgiving and the ball will "stay" in the headsize. Outside the hitting zone, however, the racket behaves well thanks to its improved stability and therefore retains optimum comfort.
Its weak point is its tolerance. You'll need good arm speed and a well-developed swing technique to get the most out of it. You may wish to consider the Blade 100L V8 if you find it too demanding.
In short, this Wilson Blade 98 16x19 V8 racket offers excellent control and touch with improved stability.
FOR WHICH PLAYERS DO WE RECOMMEND THIS RACKET?
As a competitive racket, we recommend this model for aggressive baseline volleyers. You'll need a good technical level to exploit the frame.
